John grew up in Burlington, Ontario and his gallery is in downtown, Niagara Falls. Even a casual glance at the endearing works of John Newby reveals an artist who regards children with an embracing affection. A family oriented father of four himself, John has also drawn inspiration from observations of children in parks, minor sports and everyday living. Compared favourably to Norman Rockwell, this talented Canadian has been praised for his ability to create consistently and uncannily a feeling of familiarity in the beholder – as though these warm and cozy images are a glimpse at our very own lives. When feelings of our own childhood experiences or thoughts of our beloved children are instantly and magically portrayed, more than a mere casual glance is invited. John has been drawing and painting for over 50 years and received his formal training at Ontario College of Art in Toronto. He has worked a full-time artist for the past 35 years. Prior to this he was a Police Officer for 10 years and also a Firefighter for another 10 years, painting on a part-time basis. He has produced over 200 original paintings in acrylics, plus a large number of pastel, oils, and pencil drawings. The majority of his originals have been sold to individual collectors and corporations across Canada and the United States. The development of Canvas Giclée printing means that many of his works are now available as limited edition Canvas Giclée. Over 500,000 reproductions of his work in various forms include print, books and plates. John is available for commissioned pieces, working from either a photograph supplied by the client, or in some cases, he may be available to take the photograph himself. |
